Today was Ted talk presentation day. I was quite nervous leading up to it, but think I did alright. It was cool to see how far other kids got with their projects. I liked comparing how they did their research and gathered their information versus how I did. Some of the projects were really well put-together and their presentations were efficient, but others were kind of confusing. Although i don't like getting up on stage and talking in front of an audience, I think the 20% time in its entirety was a very helpful, creative, and innovative subject and I'm really glad we got to do it here on Harmony. I haven't gotten my Ted talk grade yet, but hopefully I will tomorrow.

Ted talks are this Wednesday, the 18th of May. I have been prepping myself using notecards and doing further research. Some of my research is really technical and talks about the chemicals that interact with headaches and migraines. Dopamine and serotonin are the main chemicals that when found in an abundance could cause migraines. If the blood vessels in your brain are especially sensitive to these chemicals, you may experience headaches. Many people find dopamine repellents a very controversial idea and often mock the people that try to create such products. Another controversial headache reliever that has been tested and works (according to patients) is the use of medically-prescribed marijuana. People say this works to cease headaches, but it could come with side effects. In order to properly inform my audience, I really need to separate opinion from fact. This can be hard when working with online text and websites whose citations are nonexistent or are hard to find.

i made a mini cardboard model of roughly what the product will look like. as i was creating it, i realized that i could create magnets or velcro-attachable pieces that would come with the coolband to attach. this way, it would be extremely easy to fit to anyone's needs. i just need to decide if i should make the whole thing magnetic, limiting how plush/soft it would be, or just parts of it, limiting the versability.

right now, i am creating my model out of clay for my coolband. i am collecting information using charts, graphs, studies, clinical trials, etc. the info i am looking for includes head and neck measurements depending on age, gender, race, etc. this way, the coolband can fit anyone and everyone who needs it.

today i watched a few other pitches from other students on a different team. this inspired me to go back to my first steps and my brainstorming. i am reading my first posts and documents, and making sure my ideas are secure. i am returning to the drawing board and possibly changing the position of the pressure points that will lay on the head. this could make the coolband very versatile, so you could adjust it even more. i really want the audience to be able to be as diverse as possible.

right now i'm working on my model. i will post a picture when it's done. i also am ordering the materials from amazon and they should be here in a few weeks. i'm planning to cut open an elasto-gel sample and seeing what materials they use and how they work. i will test and compare/contrast to the materials that i'm using. this will be posted on my blog whenever i can. (most likely be on or around spring break, when i have some time)

before i can advance to my actual prototype, i'll need to make a model. i'm using wire as a base and clay (model magic) for the actual thing. i still need to figure out correct measurements for head sizes. i need data for children, teens, young adults, adults, and seniors. hopefully i can find all of those soon so i can buy the right amount of velcro. all of my materials are linked (using amazon) in the post before my last.
